GGJ recently hosted our 7th Membership Assembly in Atlanta, where 120 representatives from our member organizations across the country and ally movements abroad gathered to build with and inspire each other.
We began each morning with a mistica led by a group of members around a specific theme: Black Liberation, Grassroots Feminism, and Land Defense. We learned from local leaders about movement building in the South, about the fight for gender justice in Africa, for land and liberation in Palestine, for small farmers in Europe, and for the defense of water in Brazil. We celebrated and strategized with our It Takes Roots sister alliance, Right to the City.
We also affirmed next steps for our Grassroots Feminism, Just Transition, Movement Building programs, adopted Anti-Militarism as a new area of work, and welcomed a new Coordinating Committee for our overall work ahead:
- Black Workers for Justice
- Southwest Workers Union
- OPAL Environmental Justice Oregon
- Philadelphia Student Union
- East Michigan Environmental Action Council – EMEAC
- About Face: Veterans Against the War
- Indigenous Environmental Network
- Just Transition Alliance
Over the past several months, we have been engaged in deep consultation with our members to guide our assembly planning process. Your collective wisdom helped us to to develop this proposal for the period ahead. Make sure to check it out and share it with the rest of your organization!
